MacIntosh ClassicsIn 1993 this was the computer to have. Boxy, teeny, gray, this is what we 90s kids thought of when we thought “technology.” It was hard to imagine things could evolve much further! While there was, at this point, technically an internet, most people weren’t using it, and definitely not in their homes. Instead, these computers were used for things like word processing, probably accounting or something, and playing awesome computer games like Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego?, The Oregon Trail, The Fool’s Errand, and my personal favorite, Shufflepuck Café. Meat Loaf“And I would do anything for love
Oh, I would do anything for love
I would do anything for love but I won’t do that
I won’t do that”
Meat Loaf was a very weirdly named singer, who informed us all in 1993 via his hit song that he would do anything for love (but he wouldn’t do that). What was that one thing? While most of us have been scratching our heads about it for three decades, this guy claims to have it all figured out. You can watch the very 90s music video here.
While this song didn’t make much sense as a chapter title in Rewind, it does get a quick shout-out in the book. (Check out the full playlist of 1993 songs I used as chapter titles here!)

the McLobsterIn 1993 McDonald’s famously launched a lobster roll called the McLobster, that was widely ridiculed and bombed miserably with customers. Despite that, it has recently made a comeback. Why? Who knows. (Here’s a very long New Yorker article about it.)

Mariah CareyOh, Mariah, how I loved you so dearly. (Lets’ be honest—I still do!) When her album Music Box dropped in 1993, it was the CD to play over and over and over and over until your parents yelled at you. Well before Mariah was putting all other Christmas songs to shame with All I Want for Christmas is You (a personal favorite), she was hitting the high notes on Hero. And what would a 90s P.E. dance unit even be without the bouncy beat of Dreamlover? I mean, come on! Obviously I had to use one of her songs for a chapter title in Rewind, and Anytime You Need a Friend was the obvious choice. (For a full playlist of all the 1993 jams I used in Rewind, click here!)
