And today, in honor of my 90s-set time travel novel, Rewind—which officially drops in just nine days, woohoo!—we’ll be discussing things from 1993 that begin with the letter “L.”

Few songs get stuck in my head like this hit from 90s Irish rock band The Cranberries. Somehow boppy and melancholy at the same time, the song benefits from lead singer Dolores O’Riordan’s unique voice. It doesn’t hurt that MTV played the too-cool-for-school black-and-white music video approximately every thirty seconds. All of this made the song an obvious shoo-in for the title of Chapter 17 in Rewind. (Check out the full playlist of 1993 songs featured in Rewind here!)

Latawnya, the Naughty Horse, Learns to Say "No" to DrugsOkay, full disclosure: I’ve never actually read this book. Few people have. Self-published in 1991, this short children’s book is supposedly a beat-you-over-the-head didactic story about the dangers of drugs (a very popular theme in the 90s). It also, apparently, features illustrations of horses smoking joints and drinking whiskey. Perhaps not surprisingly, the book became something of an ironic internet sensation in the early 2000’s, and now if you have the good fortune to actually find a copy, it may cost you as much as four-hundred and fifty dollars. That’s some horse, all right.
